Default Why is sundering so expensive?

I still cannot figure out why the sundering mods are so popular (As in a perfect one can go for something like 70k). They offer a LOW chance to penetrate a small fraction of a persons armor which practically makes it a waste of a weapons slot. Math-Wise, even a max 10/10 Sundering mod will add 1% more damage to your weapon. IF there weren't any alternatives, then I could understand the purpose for this. Anybody else here think sundering is over-rated?

Maybe because most kids can't do math well and many has lots of gold?

We call this SNS Super Newb Syndrome. SNS victims also find themselves paying 150k for a 30 life fortitude pommel when a 500 gold 5 armor pommel owns it in every way.

just like when people use the 3:1 vapiric hilt on a sword. lets see i gain 3 hp per sec while attacking while i lose 2 hp per sec always......hhhhmmmm...ya that's really worth it

just like when people will buy a max def shield with +40 hp while w/e, when you can go to collector and get a max def sheild with +45 hp and -2 absorption.

since the collectors show what items they have i haven't bought a single sheild or weapon from a player. i get weapon from collector and buy upgrades to fit my needs.

here are the best upgrades:
+5 armor
20% dmg vs monster type
zealous (only for swords and axes)
elemental dmg (except earth) i've hit a ele with full pyro armor from drok with a fire hilted weapon and it did more than earth does with 0 resistance
+5 energy staff heads
20% enchantments (any class would be able to take advantage of this)
lengthen conditions is always helpfull especially cripple and deep wound

other than that i sell to dumb people

Out of curiosity, is there some sort of "price guide" that can tell you the current going rate for some of these mods? I have a bunch (including at least couple Zealous hilts) that I've been hanging on to for my own personal use. But if people are willing to pay big money for them, heck -- nothing's so "uber" that I can't live without it. Most of these mods make little difference anyway, so I have no problem parting a fool...er, happy customer...from his money.

It's expensive because idiots think it's good and will pay for it.

Its expensive because every single bonus is pretty useless in the end, and won't make much of a difference, so people go for the status symbol of a perfect upgrade, especially when gold is meaningless and there is nothing else to do with it once you have 1.4 million.

People who spend more than 1,000 gold on a 9/10 sundering hilt or a +29 sword pommel are idiots, unless they are just buying to turn around and sell to a bigger idiot. Its not perfect or effective, so there isn't much point.

I do think that the +30 fort versus +5 armor is debatable (and debated it at length with Ensign yesterday). I prefer fortitude for warriors who have lots of armor and get attacked by mesmers/necros/smiting monks/elementalists a lot and armor for my casters who have less armor to start and get attacked by warriors a lot, but if you are looking for the cost effective alternative, +5 armor is indisputably the way to go.

If you use enchantments, a pommel of enchanting is a good option, or if you conjure the right elemental upgrade is important, otherwise, none of it really matters.

Just get something cool that will impress all the people who see it . . .

Sundering mods are like The Buckle jeans. The Buckle is a retail store, its the only place my GF will shop. She pays 90ish bucks for a pair of jeans. She could go to Old Navy and get a pair of jeans for 20ish bucks. They would look as good, they would last, probably, nearly as long. But, she is a brat and *has* to have jeans from the Buckle.

They cost more, they MUST be better.

Same thing in real life with Old Navy and the Gap. They use the EXACT same textiles, but the Gap charges 2-3x more. Why? People (esp. Americans) are not rational when it comes to money.

Did I jump off topic? Hrm...

GO VIKINGS! Whooo hooo football season!

I agree here completely, both have their purpose. One is not better than the other in every situation.

One and Two, stay OT. MCS is banned because he's to 1337 for these boards, yet somehow he gets back anyway.

Krandor, LeviGarrett's baseline mod price guide is good, but a little outdated I think. It's here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=44867

Sundering is in demand because A: it works B: its not complete BS like elemental dmg upgrades and C: to get 10/10 is rare. How much you intend to pay for it is up to you.

A: It gives an approximate 1% AP boost. Compared to its price, it's not worth it.
B: Elemental damage upgrades + Conjure = more damage. Plus elemental bypasses physical damage reduction. I prefer other mods than Sundering and Elemental though.

Many foes rangers and the like have armor bonus vs elemental dmg, I stripped all ele upgrades from all my weapons for all my players and replaced them with sundering, I deal more dmg now. But barbed and the like is more practical, but I dont use any skills to compliment it.

10/10 gives you one of ten hits with armor penetration.
10 Furious give you the same, one of ten hits chance for double adrenaline

Do you use any of the skills below?
Barbed (bleeding) = Seeking Blade, Sever Artery, Desperation Blow
Crippling (cripple) = Hamstring, Desperation Blow
Cruel (deep wound) = Axe Rake, Axe Twist, Dismember, Eviscerate, Swift Chop, Gash, Desperation Blow
